My Methodology

  • For young beginners, I use Irina Gorin’s “Tales of a Musical Journey”, which is a unique Russian method. Through storytelling and a physical approach to the instrument, it introduces expressive and sensitive playing in an enjoyable way. I also use a whole body learning approach, which is based on the educational concepts of Orff, Dalcroze and Kodály. This helps to engage students and allows them to explore creativity while developing their musical awareness. Students are also encouraged to play with a soundtrack and explore duets and trios. Through ensemble playing, children are able to consolidate aspects related to rhythm, tempo and dynamics, and also learn to listen to each other.

  • Most of my students take piano exams, primarily through the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). Examinations encourage students to prepare many musical aspects, such as repertoire performance, technical work, sight-reading, aural (pitch and rhythm), music theory and knowledge of their repertoire. All of these aspects allow students to grow their musicianship. Grade exams motivate students in their learning, and are an achievement to be proud of.

  • Many of my students participate in public performances. These include studio concerts and competitions. Concerts and competitions provide opportunities to perform on a stage. They are a valuable experience for testing skills, and great for showcasing growth.
