“Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”
- Victor Hugo
My Philosophy.
Music (especially classical music) is an integral part of my life. Classical music is something that does not age, and it is always there for me. It takes me to other beautiful worlds and comforts me. I’d like to share and pass on this special feeling of enjoyment to my students.
As a piano teacher, I aim to inspire learning, express a love of music and encourage students to engage with learning music until they gain sufficient skills to be able to teach themselves. I care for each student’s age and individuality to nurture their sensibility.
It is my goal to develop in each of my students a comprehensive understanding of music that enables them to play the piano with utmost enjoyment and musicality. I encourage students to develop musical abilities such as aural (including rhythm and pitch), technique, theory, sight-reading, memorising and also creativity, such as improvising and composing skills. I strongly believe that students need these basic abilities in order to enjoy listening, creating and performing music better throughout their life time.

I recommend for students to be at least 4 years old before starting. Once a child can recognise the alphabet, small numbers (at least up to 5) and have a basic vocabulary, they have a basis to be able to start learning music.

I recommend a fully-weighted, 88-key piano. This is usually referred to as a “full size piano” and can be either acoustic or digital.
Many music examination boards set a full size piano as a minimum requirement to take their exams. However, this is not the only reason that a full size piano is important.
Put simply, a full size piano is what helps to develop touch, tone and other important techniques for playing the piano. In order to grow musicality, it is much easier to feel the music through the weight of the keys.

Before lessons start, you will need to have purchased any specified textbooks and a lesson diary.
Please also prepare an A4 plastic display folder (spiral bound), a scrapbook and pencils for some theory activities.

Commitment is incredibly important to growth, so a minimum of 5 days a week for at least half an hour is recommended.
For younger students, it may be easier to break up the half an hour to shorter sessions, say three 10-minute blocks throughout the day.
